Dr. Bassam is a local native of the Northern Virginia region. Raised in Fairfax, Virginia, Dr. Bassam attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry. He continued his education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine where he graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in 1997. His studies led him to an internship in General Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois which prepared him for an Anesthesia residency at the New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center in New York City. After completing anesthesia residency in New York Dr. Bassam was then accepted into the Advanced Interventional Pain Management Program at Texas Tech Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Bassam spent a year learning advanced interventional techniques in pain management from some of the foremost experts in the field.
Following training Dr. Bassam was named Director of Pain Management for a busy teaching hospital in New York City where he was responsible for building a hospital based pain practice in an area that was lacking in any similar services. With great enthusiasm, Dr. Bassam decided to move back to the area he considers home in Northern Virginia and launch The Spine Care Center in early 2005.
As Medical Director, Dr. Bassam is excited and delighted to be part of the medical community and to be back in the Northern Virginia area as a whole. Dr. Bassam has a large and extended family throughout the DC metro area and enjoys spending his extra time horseback riding, reading, and scuba diving. Dr. Bassam’s professional interests include radiofrequency ablation of nerves (RFTC), percutaneous lysis of adhesions (Racz Procedure), and spinal cord stimulation.

Dr. Faisal Siddiqui is orginally from Ohio, and has been in the Northern Virginia Area since 2005. He is affiliated with Prince William Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, and Fair Oaks Hospital. Dr. Siddiqui completed his undergraduate degree at Cornell University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with distinction in all subjects. He subsequently completed his medical education at Vanderbilt Medical School and graduated with honors.
After completing medical school, Dr. Siddiqui specialized in orthopaedic surgery with a residency at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. More [+]
here he was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation humanitarian award and received "Resident of the Year" recognition by the medical faculty for excellence in clinical care and teaching.
Dr. Siddiqui then further subspecialized in spinal surgery with a fellowship at the Charlotte Spine Center at the Carolinas Medical Center.
Dr. Siddiqui has published numerous peer-reviewed medical articles pertaining to orthopaedics and spine surgery. He routinely gives lectures to the medical and public communities on minimally invasive approaches to spine surgery. He has currently been awarded an INOVA faculty research grant to study three-dimensional computer modeling in spinal trauma. Dr. Siddiqui also is a member of the Trauma Executive Commitee at Fairfax Hospital which is currently the only Level I trauma center in the region. He has taken care of complex spinal trauma there since 2005. Dr. Siddiqui has specialized training in minimally invasive spine surgery and was one of the first surgeons in Northern Viriginia to perform the minimally invasive Trans1 and Xlif procedures, using computer assisted navigation as well as fluoroscopic assisted surgery. In addition, Dr. Siddiqui has significant experience in disc replacement surgery and completed an international training program in Munich, Germany with Dr. M. Myers on the "Prodisc-C" cervical disc replacement procedure.
Dr. Siddiqui serves as Vice-Chairman of the Prince William Department of Orthopaedics, where he also takes care of general orthopaedic trauma injuries. In his free time, Dr. Siddiqui enjoys being with his family and his hobbies include golfing and skiing.
Board Certified, Physician Assistant
David Pope, PA-C is a native of Northern Virginia. Growing up in Prince William County, he served his community by volunteering for the fire and rescue service for over fifteen years. David obtained his Associates Degree in Applied Science in Emergency Medicine at Northern Virginia Community College and continued his education at Shenandoah University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Respiratory Care. After working as a Respiratory Therapist for twelve years, in 2009 he attended King’s College in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania where he obtained his Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies. David has also worked as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for both Northern Virginia Community College and Shenandoah University in their Respiratory Therapy Programs and continues to be a guest teacher at Shenandoah University for the Physician Assistant Program. David is a Board Certified Physician Assistant and Respiratory Therapist, and is an active member of the Northern Virginia Physician Assistant Society.
David has been part of the Spine Care Center since 2010 and is committed to his patients. If anyone understands chronic pain, it’s David. He brings a unique understanding to his work in pain management due to having his left leg amputated over a decade ago following a traumatic accident. The extensive pain he suffered helps him empathize with his patients. He knows firsthand the agony of constant pain and how debilitating it can be. During his spare time David enjoys being with his wife and two daughters, being outdoors, woodworking and watching football.
Board Certified, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Christine Jones, Nurse Practitioner, recently joined the Spine Care Center in November 2012. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Montana State University in 1998. She then completed her Master’s Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2005, at Creighton University, in Nebraska. She was also an Adjunct Clinical Faculty for the nursing program at College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska.
Christine has 13 years of working in several different fields of medicine. She has experience with pain management, orthopedics, and trauma from her time in the Army and Air Force as a flight nurse. Christine is Board Certified from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and was inducted into the nursing honor society Sigma Theta Tau. More [+]
Christine recently moved from Florida to the Northern Virginia area and enjoys spending time with her two young sons and husband. Athletics are a favorite past-time including volleyball, running, and Taekwondo. She is welcoming Northern Virginia as her new home and is an asset to the Spine Care Center team of expert medical professionals.
Darryl Markowitz, PA-C
Board Certified, Physician Assistant
Darryl Markowitz, PA-C joins the expert medical team at the Spine Care Center as a Board Certified Physician Assistant. She was born and raised in Sunrise, Florida, and recently moved to the Northern Virginia area to further pursue her career.
Darryl graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science. She then completed her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. Darryl has extensive clinical experience in the evaluation and treating patients. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. More [+]
Darryl enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her dog, Bella. In her spare time she enjoys exploring Washington D.C. and experiencing all of the museums, architecture and historical background the area has to offer. Darryl is looking forward to welcoming Northern Virginia as her new home and is happy to be a part of the award-winning spine experts at The Spine Care Center.
Board Certified, Physician Assistant
Kathlene joins The Spine Care Center with a wealth of surgical experience ranging from spine, trauma, and women’s health. She completed her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI in 2005. Since then she has actively continued to build upon this educational background by exceeding the basic requirements with continuing medical education credits and formal courses through the Medical College of Wisconsin as well as mentoring new physicians and physician assistants through Waukesha Memorial Hospital and Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. Kathlene also holds certification as a diagnostic medical sonographer through the AIUM. More [+]
Kathlene is married and has one child. In her free time she enjoys coaching a local high school varsity soccer team as well as continuing to play soccer, playing the piano, and relaxing with her dog.
